ESG Profile

Metals for Progress: Driving Sustainable Growth. Our company strategy shows that Aurubis views sustainability as an essential part of our Group’s conduct and business activities. We are committed to the responsible handling of the resources we use to create value in the form of our metals — for an innovative and sustainable world. Because our products are the key to the mobility and energy transition, as well as to digitalization.

In expanding our industry leadership role in sustainability, we are focusing on nine action areas under the Economy, People and Environment sustainability areas. We have defined concrete and ambitious targets for each of these action areas that we aim to achieve by 2030. This is how we are making our progress in sustainability transparent and quantifiable.

Climate protection: We aim to achieve carbon-neutral production operations well before 2050. We are already producing many of our metals with less than half the global average carbon footprint today.

Responsibility in the supply chain: To fulfill our due diligence for a responsible and sustainable supply chain, all our business partners undergo our comprehensive Business Partner Screening based on the principles of the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD).

Recycling: Our copper cathodes will contain up to 50 % recycled raw materials by 2030. Which is why we are building the largest multimetal recycling plant, Aurubis Richmond.

Future-oriented employer: We place the greatest priority on high-quality vocational training and continuing education, and foster diversity and social engagement. To raise employees’ awareness for human rights and anti-discrimination, we developed a Group-wide training concept that has already reached over 90 % of administrative staff.

Reporting

We make our sustainability achievements transparent and comparable. We make our sustainability performance transparent in a variety of ways.

We publish a Non-Financial Report for the Group within the Annual Report and release a Sustainability Report guided by the standards of the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) every two years. In the years without a Sustainability Report, the KPIs are updated and released separately in consolidated form.

We actively participate in influential ESG ratings. An overview of our current results is featured here.
