Means of payment used in the takeover of a company

This term is used primarily in connection with a merger between two listed companies that is implemented by exchanging their registered shares. Treasury shares of the acquiring company are used as an acquisition or exchange currency during takeovers, e.g. to buy out the existing owners of the target company.
