Central register shares
Shares that are entered directly into an electronic register
Central register shares are issued as electronic shares instead of in the form of a traditional share certificate or global certificate. The issuer enters them into an electronic securities register, a central register, or a crypto securities register.
Both registered shares and bearer shares can be entered in a central register, while the crypto securities register only allows registered shares.
Under certain conditions, stock corporations can also replace existing physical shares with electronic shares. Upon entry in the electronic securities register, physical shares are declared invalid by law.
Our glossary explains important financial terms and should not leave any questions unanswered. However, if you are missing a definition, please write to us at redaktion@deutsche-boerse.com. We will then include the term if possible.
