ESG-Kurzprofil

About E.ON or E.ON SE

E.ON is an investor-owned energy company with approximately 74,600 employees led by Corporate Functions in Essen.

The E.ON Group is one of Europe's largest operators of Energy Networks and Energy Infrastructureand a provider of innovative customer solutions for approx. 47 million customers. Thus, we are decisively driving forward the energy transition in Europe and are committed to sustainability, climate protection, and the future of our planet.

Ambitious: The goals we have set for ourselves

As an international company with a strong focus on supply-relevant energy infrastructure, we bear a great responsibility for the world we live in – both today and tomorrow. That's why we are consistently committed to the sustainable development of the energy world. We do this by making energy cleaner and smarter and giving all our customers access to a sustainable supply of electricity and heat.

Our climate is rapidly changing due to greenhouse gas emissions. In Germany, more than 70 percent of these emissions are energy-related. That's why E.ON, more consequently than other energy companies, has fundamentally reinvented itself. Today, we're focused on using our businesses to drive the decarbonization of the energy world. We're determined to combat climate change, improve people's lives, and create a livable future.

We want to further reduce those emissions we can directly influence and become climate neutral by 2040. To achieve this, we will reduce our own emissions (Scope 1 and 2) by 75 percent by 2030 and 100 percent by 2040 compared to 2019. We aim to reduce emissions at our customers (Scope 3) by 50 percent by 2030 and 100 percent by 2050 compared with 2019. In May 2022 the Science Based Target initiative (“SBTi”) confirmed that E.ON’s climate targets are consistent with the Paris Agreement’s 1.5°C target.

We protect the health and safety of our customers and employees. "Mission ZERO" means avoiding fatalities at all costs. To this end, we have been a signatory of the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights since 2005. We support society and authorities in eliminating exploitative labor in supply chains. We promote diversity and inclusion. We aim to increase the proportion of female managers to 32 percent. This corresponds to the overall share of female employees at E.ON.

Reporting

Sustainability is the centerpiece of E.ON’s strategy and—in every dimension—will be the standard for our future actions. An integrated report provides our stakeholders with a holistic and transparent view of our financial, environmental, and social performance.

If you want to find out more on E.ON’s transition to a net-zero carbon world take a look at our supporting paper for E.ON’s decarbonization strategy and climate-related aspects which also addresses our TCFD disclosures.

The E.ON Climate Advocacy and Associations Report provides an overview on our responsible lobbying approach, the platforms and organisations we are part of, and the four key positions we take in our efforts towards the energy transition: E.ON fully supports the Paris Agreement, the EU Climate Ambition Fit-for-55-Package, the EU approach to sustainable finance, and carbon pricing. Being clear on those, we analysed whether the initiatives we take part in support our perspectives: We listed 56 initiatives, organisations and associations, compared their positions to ours, and evaluated whether these are aligned, partially (mis)aligned, misaligned – or whether there is no position. As a result, we found a total of five misalignments to our positions within three associations.

E.ON’s Green Bond Reporting discloses detailed information on our activities and achievements and our calculation approach for avoided emissions. The energy world is steadily becoming more distributed, digital, and decarbonised. E.ON has decided to issue Green Bonds to finance and / or refinance projects related to Renewable Energy, Energy Efficiency and Clean Transportation which fits perfectly to E.ON’s core businesses and sustainable strategy.
